Uncle Billy on Outside TV

Press Room

Kaneiolouma is very fortunate to have had quite a few excellent videos produced to educate people about the cultural importance of the restoration project. Our good friend and videographer Jim Aikman of Bedrock Film Works has now produced a five minute short called "Uncle Billy" which is at this moment airing on Outside Television.

Says Jim, “After six years of filming with the Hawaiian community in Poipu, Kauaʻi, for a non-profit working to protect and restore a sacred ceremonial site, we decided it was time to make a short film about one of the key characters.”

“Billy Kaohelauliʻi grew up during a turbulent time in Hawaiʻi’s history, when its cultural identity was under serious threat. Despite these obstacles, Billy maintains links to his past through the arts of his ancestors. Follow Billy with his throw-net and surfboard as he reflects on the past, present and future of his beloved Hawaiian Kingdom.”

Jim is currently working on presenting a longer version of the Kāneiolouma story. We congratulate him on his success and extend our most sincere Mahalos for his help along the way.
