3D Mapping Lays Groundwork for Restoration

There are many overlapping phases underway to set the stage for the restoration work ready to begin on this ancient Hawaiian village in Poipu. One of the most advanced technological efforts involves the skills of internationally recognized surveyor Dave Wellman.

Wellman runs AutoCAD software, Starnet computation software, Leica survey and Trimble GPS equipment, and is one of the few survey firms with Leica survey grade 3D laser scanning capabilities. His 3D scanning projects have taken him to local and exotic locales working for engineering firms, Universities, and State Lands Departments.

With the data collected now and in future visits, we are creating a 3D virtual map of Kaneiolouma as it exists today. This will serve as a mission critical benchmark to be referenced as the project proceeds.
