3D Laser Survey

Living Lab

In preparation for the full restoration project, the Hui secured the services of professional surveyor Dave Wellman. Mr. Wellman has extensive experience in mapping world-famous important historical sites, including Machu Picchu, Peru.

Mr. Wellman brought his 3D scanning services to Kāneiolouma and used laser technology for 3D point cloud data collection which was then processed by mapping software to create high resolution records of the existing culture site.

Cultural resource scanning provides a scientific baseline for restoration work, such as the Kāneiolouma Heiau, which will be an entirely above-ground project. Mr. Wellman's data will be used side by side with the 1959 survey by Henry Kekahuna.
